Ürosan exports wastage foams

Answering our questions about the industry and his company, sales manager Korhan Yilmaz emphasized on quality more on production. Saying that they offer fire resistant products as well, Yilmaz pointed out that their foam is more durable because it is powerful thanks to its densities.

Would you inform us about the establishment of your company and its activities?

It was established in 1974 as a company of SDK holding. Since at the beginning we focused on the production of different foams. Presently we produce certain kinds of foams that other companies do not have in their product portfolios.

What about your production facility and its capacity?

Earlier our factory was in Ikıtelli, Istanbul. We moved in Cerkezkoy where we have a factory of 15 thousand sqm closed area on 40 thousand sqm land. Monthly capacity of the factory is 650 thousand tons annually.

Do you export to Europe and neighboring countries?

We export wasted foams. We pressed them to reduce the cost of transport. We can haul 20 tons of foam in a container. About 50 tons of clipped foams are exported to Holland, Egypt and Saudi Arabia each month. The foams are produced for several industries are sold to other countries including Greece. Recently we added Bulgaria in our export markets.

What other types of foams do you produce?

We also make visco foams, but in limited amounts, not much as our rivals do. Because visco material is cast in boxes to obtain better and healthier products. On the other hand it is not the same to manage a product of 30 metersinstead of two meters long. Weproduce foams for mattresses and for sofas. Before selling anything to the people you have to explain them the positive sides of the products. For that reason we limit the volume of visco foam production.

What kind of foam do you use for mattresses?

We have a product called Here. They are high quality foams and we can produce fires resistant varieties of this product. Since they are harder than others they are more durable and can be used for years. We have also porous foams to facilitate ventilation. We carry joint research and development studies with our buyers to produce better products. Our HR foams are mostly used in mattress industry. They are harder and durable than others and more comfortable. Generally foams for mattresses are made of 45 density.

What do you want to say about foam production in Turkey?

Foam production in Turkey is growing heavily. Some companies have 3 to 4 factories for production. My forecast is that there are about 26 foam producer company in Turkey, most of them are in Anatolia. There are some producers around Istanbul, like us. However, we have customers in Ankara, Izmir, Bursa and Antakya and in Blacksea region. According to the data furnished by raw

material suppliers, our company ranks at 6th place among other producers in Turkey with its 600 to 650 tons of annual production. All these are also related with costs of mattress manufacturing. Springs are less costly for mattress manufacturers, so they prefers it. But, for the reasons of cost and efficiency both foams and springs have to be used in the manufacturing.

How was the year 2016, and what are your plans for the coming period?

As a whole nation, we have overcome a great attack aiming our sovereignty. However we are hopeful for the future. Our business run as usual, but we became more selective among our customers and business partners. Since our production volume is not sufficient for further growth we have to establish a new factory. We have plans for this. In mid term we want to develop new products and focus on them.
