Milkay exports to 52 countries

Established in 1995 Milkay has been producing felt using 90 tons of textile waste in a year.

The felt and padding of Milkay are used in production of spring mattresses, spring sofas, furniture, automotive and insulation. Mr. Oguz Ozey stated that Milkay had a daily capacity of 150 tons of felt adding that they decreased stock and purchasing costs in the sector considerably. Ozey answered our questions about their operations:

Could you furnish us with general information about your company?

Milkay Technical Textile A.S. is presenting solutions with the advantages of itself on felt and non-woven supplement to its customers’ which operates in mattress and furniture industries. And on the other hand, Milkay also supported the growing of its customers’ by providing reductions on purchasing and storage costs of them. With 18.000 sqm closed area and eight production lines in Kayseri Central Factory and also with additional auxiliary plants in Gaziantep, Bursa and Istanbul, Milkay is one of the biggest felt manufacturer in Middle-East and also Europe.

Could you brief us about your production?

The most important factor of Milkay’s qualified production and products is having got an advanced technology. In the production lines right now, with the minimum reduced by wastage we are producing 4.000 tons of high quality felt. Purchasing best qualified raw material and periodic repair and maintenance of equipment has become the assurance of good results on final products. We have gained such a success by providing standardization of a product like felt and we have obtained the quality certificates of TSEK and ISO. In the meanwhile this success is supported by other system and process developing methods. Milkay Teknik Tekstil San. A.S. is collecting and making the classification of 48.000 tons of waste textile material in order to make required preparation for felt which is needed by sector. With our all staff and employees of 750 people in total; we are making the procurement of industrial raw materials for the Sectors of Mattress, Furniture, Insulation, Construction, Automotive and White Appliances.

What is importance of a FELT for mattress?

The Felt which we are producing is mostly used in Mattress Industry. It plays an important role in increasing comfort in Mattress and provides a long life product. However, when you make a price/cost analysis of felt in Mattress, you’ll see that this proportion is very down.

Can you inform us about your foreign trade; exports and imports? 

Our export sales proportion in total sales is continually increasing ever since the date of our Company’s foundation. We are exporting our goods to 52 countries in all over the world, particularly Middle-East, North Africa, Russia and Balkan Countries. Our export sales take an important place in our strategic targets of 3 years period.

What do you have in your product range?

Our product ranges are; “Hard Felt” for inner-spring mattresses as an over spring material, “Jute Felt” for Sofa and Soft Group as durability intensifier, “Cotton Felt, Wool Felt and Soft Gray Pad” for quilting as filling material, “Thermo bond Felt” for White Appliances and Construction sector and “Automotive Felt” for Automotive sector.

How was 2013 for your company? Could you brief us your review about 2013?

2013 was a balanced year for us due to entering new markets even if it couldn’t cover the expectations.

What plans or targets do you have for 2014?

By January 2014, we’ll be completed the required investments in order to provide implementing more professionalism as efficient on the basis of auxiliary material and we’ll be increase our real capacity by increasing our export sales proportion.

Is there anything you would especially like to mention?

As having a great importance in protecting the nature and contributing added value to the economy; recycle –particularly textile recycle- obviously is not supported. Authorized Bodies should make better analysis and they should provide the deserved incentives and supports to the Recycle business.
