Mavera Kimya: Innovation is an important cultural value for us

Emre Ergüneş, Purchasing Manager of Ergüneş Group, answered questions about Mavera Kimya, which is a part of it, for Sleeptech.

Emre Ergüneş, who talked about the technical features of the glue they produce in an interview with Sleeptech editor Furkan Akar, also gave the following statements in his speech on innovation and R&D; “We are trying to implement the innovation culture in our company more effectively by spreading it day by day. As we have realized many projects, especially product and production R&D activities, with our innovation committee that we have made specifically in this regard, we continue to work on new projects without interruption. As I mentioned, innovation is a very important cultural value for us. Of course, the most important factor shaping our culture is all the positive and negative feedback from our customers. For Mavera Kimya, a company that has adopted the principle of ‘the main boss is the customer’, I can say that product R&D studies are perhaps the most important of our innovative activities and the only activity that is carried out continuously.”

 

Can you mention the characteristics of the foam adhesives that you have produced for the mattress sector?

First of all, I would like to start by conveying my greetings to our esteemed readers.

We are producing two different types of adhesives for the mattress sector: Hot-melt and Solvent-based adhesives.

Among them, our solvent-based adhesives are the classic foam adhesives that we know as gun type and are used in foaming. Now, our country has gained an important position on a global scale in terms of production capacity and diversity for this product. Of course, our company Mavera Kimya is one of the leading actors in this product group. As we serve our customers who are producing mattress with our standard formulas, we can also offer services and products with optional special works if requested.

But, as you know, now the future is in innovative products that are environmentally friendly and free from negative effects on all living life, especially humans.

For this reason, Hot-melt adhesives, which do not harm living life and the environment and comply with all environmental directives that will appear in this direction in the near future (such as the European Green Agreement, Carbon Footprint, Water Footprint), are rapidly replacing solvent-based adhesives.

If we consider hot-melt adhesives specifically for the mattress sector, as Mavera Kimya I would like to state that we have a very wide product range. We produce and offer our Hot-melt adhesives, which are needed in many different applications from mattress fabric production to mattress packaging, with both standard and custom-made formulas.

If we briefly describe our hot-melt adhesive diversity;

1. Bag Spring Hot-melt Adhesives: Those are adhesives used in the manufacture of Bag Springs. I can clearly state that we currently have the best position among domestic manufacturers in terms of product variety, capacity and, of course, our market share.
2. PSA Hot-melt Adhesives; It is a type of Hot-melt adhesive used for sticking components such as foam, fabric, interlining, felt to each other in mattress manufacturing.. We, as Mavera Kimya, are the first company in our country to manufacture this product in the form of pillow type with 100% domestic capital and self-knowledge. We continue to offer adhesives of different qualities to our mattress industrialists with our production and marketing team, which is capable of meeting all kinds of demands of our customers in this product group, both with our formula diversity and production capacity.
3. Package Hot-melt Adhesives: We have much more robust options that will save our customers who use parcel packaging in mattress production from the trouble of box tape. Thanks to this type of Hot-melt adhesives, our customers can achieve stronger results and get rid of external elements such as duct tape and ribbon, which are a serious threat to the visibility of the designs on their packaging.

What are the technical features of the adhesive you used for the manufacture of bag spring mattresses?

The most basic technical element that distinguishes the product used in the production of bag springs from other adhesives is the adhesion strength caused by the adhesive. After the bag springs are produced, they are exposed to some compelling strengths such as high tensile / compression and high temperature. For this reason, the choice of adhesive is of great importance in the production of bag springs, where no support mounting element other than adhesive is used between two rows of bags. In order to better explain some of the main sub-reasons of this, I think we need to touch on some headings.

1. Interlining: It is necessary to be able to prepare formulas containing chemical properties that will be very compatible with Interlining, which are a surface / material with chemical properties that are difficult to adapt to.
2. Spring: The steel springs in the glued interlinings apply a very high tensile & compressive strength to the adhesive. For this reason, this strength is one of the most important elements to be considered.

• High Ambient Temperature: The possibility of being exposed to very high or low temperatures compared to the climatic conditions of our country in the storage area, inside the delivery vehicle and finally in the regions where the bed is used is another factor that we consider more carefully when technically distinguishing this product from others.

1. Packaging: Stock and shipping cost issues have now become one of the most important savings items for manufacturers and vendors with the developing technology. For this reason, Bag springs or mattresses made with bag springs, which have a very large volume under normal conditions, are packed by pressing method in order to occupy less space during storing and shipping. At this point, the importance of the strength of the bag spring adhesive comes to the fore once again. It is because, after applying the pressing process at very high pressure and storing and shipping processes that take maybe months and possible under very high or low temperature conditions, the bag springs in question or the mattresses produced in this way should be able to be used in a healthy way when they are taken out of the press package.

 

As Mavera Kimya, what kind of innovative features do you include in your products? Can you mention your R&D studies?

Our laboratory, which has the ability to produce new formulas in the light of customer feedback, and other units affiliated to it, carry out non-stop R&D activities.

Can you mention your studies or sensitivities on recycling, sustainability and nature protection?

Unfortunately, the damage we have done to the environment as human beings has reached a very advanced level. In the past, only environmental news was mentioned in the news as ‘the ozone layer is being depleted’. But now, unfortunately, we observe all of these negative effects in a very clear and striking way in the air we breathe, the water we drink, the environment we live in, in short, in every aspect of our daily life.

Happily, mankind has seen this negative picture, albeit late, and some very important steps have been taken for this purpose. I would like to state the following very clearly and precisely; in the world of the future, there is no place for any structure that does not care about recycling, sustainability and environmental effects. This is quite obvious.

As Mavera Kimya we, for this reason, are shaping and fulfilling our activities in line with the goals of zero waste, products & production that are harmless to living life and the environment, and a sustainable future by preserving and developing the sensitivity and responsibility awareness we have gained so far in these matters. For this, we carry out all the activities that we need to fulfill in the light of our legal obligations and social responsibilities, which we are always aware of.

I wouldn’t even want to imagine a world where we can’t benefit from its air, water and soil. Unfortunately, we only partially witness this situation.

If we want to be able to go to bed healthy, put our head on the pillow and sleep soundly every night, I believe that there are many things we need to do for Humanity and Nature.
